- 11/24 - Due to requirements for Family Portal, I have changed my grading policy. For the rest of the year, I will be using weighted categories rather than total points. Classwork (such as participation and warm-ups, etc.) will be worth 40% of the total grade. Homework (such as writing journals and flashcards, etc.) will be 40%. And tests/quizzes (such as listening comprehension checks, etc.) will be worth 20%. Of note for those using Family Portal, there are 3 (proprietary) codes I'm using to help me keep things straight. 'A' means the student was absent and the assignment can be made up for full credit. 'M' means the assignment is missing due to not being turned in, and is currently worth zero points. Such an assignment can be made up for half credit. 'NC' means no credit. An 'NC' assignment cannot be made up and will count for zero points.
- 11/13 - Students have now received their report cards for the first marking period. If you have any questions please shoot me an email (jhurst@wcboe.org). Family Portal will be up soon so you will be able to check your student's grades from home! Contact the office during school hours for more information (410-677-5143). Spanish 1 will be starting the second half of Chapter 3 on Monday. We begin with learning vocab for additional activities as well as some places a person could go. Spanish 2 will be starting half of Chapter 9 in which we will continue our discussion of celebrations with additional vocabulary.
- 10/01 - Spanish 1 is almost done with Chapter 1. Most recently we have used numbers from 1-31 to ask and say the date and time as well as using the alphabet to spell words and ask/say email addresses. Spanish 2 will be done with reviewing chapters 1-7 in the next couple days. Homework due today (Thursday 10/1) was to create 10 flashcards (pic on one side, Spanish word on the other) with vocabulary on lunch foods, drinks, and table settings. Parents, please take the opportunity to practice with your student by quizzing them with the flashcards.
- Parents, please double check with your student that they have received a username and password to http://my.hrw.com so that you can access the book from home.

We, the language teachers of Wicomico County, have collectively color coded the document so as to describe the specific objectives for each level of Spanish (or French, or Latin). By the end of the year, students should know or be able to do everything with the color corresponding to the level of class in which they are enrolled. Level 1 is yellow. Level 2 is purple. Level 3 is green. Level 4 is blue. Level 5 is pink.
